The Wakefield Building is an 8-story, 56,676 square foot, LEED Silver-certified, historic office building located in the “Uptown” submarket of Downtown Oakland. Situated near the corner of 17th Street and Broadway, the building is located at 426 17th Street, less than a block from the 19th Street BART Station entrance and is adjacent to a city-owned parking garage (on Franklin Street) which is directly accessible from the building’s lobby. The Building is surrounded by a very robust amenity base including the Fox and Paramount Theatres, Frank Ogawa Plaza, City Hall, Lake Merritt, and an abundance of Uptown bars and restaurants. This premier creative building was originally constructed in 1924 as a medical office building for Dr. W. H. Wakefield, and was fully renovated and seismically upgraded in 2001. It features a high-character entrance and lobby, brick and concrete interiors walls with high ceilings, and open plan layouts. Operable windows and a great window line provide abundant natural light and ventilation. There is ample bicycle storage in the basement level as well as men’s and women’s shower rooms. The Wakefield is the home of Sungevity’s incubator spin-off, SfunCube, as well as First Place for Youth, the American Heart Association, the Rockwood Leadership Institute, and the Asian Pacific Education Network.
